The Bare Essential Makeup Products I Can't Live Without

By Ava Alderman

My daughter is a teen who has been struggling with acne and rosacea since about fifth grade. We've tried everything and nothing has helped. No matter what makeup she used (even those formulated for oily or acne prone skin) they all turned her face oily, shiny and greasy by the end of the day and they all contributed to more break outs for her.

Luckily, Bare Essentials makeup became popular with teenagers and of course she wanted to use what her friends were using. I had my doubts. This makeup is made from minerals and is known to be light, pure and sheer. I could not see how it could provide her with enough coverage to look decent, but I have to admit that it did.

A few weeks into Bare Essentials we noticed her face clearing up. We could not believe it. So, I bought her some other products in this line and eventually I tried some of them as well. Needless to say, now I am using them. My husband teases me for using teen makeup, but this is the only makeup that doesn't settle into crow's feet or tiny wrinkles and make me look older. I thought the sheerness would work against but I get lots of compliments so I think it is actually working for me. Here is a list of what has become our favorite products:

Foundation: This is understandably the company's most popular product. This stuff is clean and pure and makes your face look soft and dewy. The company says you can sleep in it. Although we haven't tried that, we both have to agree this stuff has saved my daughter's and has made her mom look a bit younger.

Mineral Veil (sometimes called Bare Essentials id): I really think that it is the veil that makes this product line work as well as it does. It is basically a sheer, powder concealer that gives the face a flawless, dewy look. In my daughter's case, it really helps to absorb her excess oil and I believe the minerals in it have helped heal her rosacea.

Radiant Rebecca: This is a type of glimmer eye shadow that can be applied wet or dry. This product gives a depth and sparkle to your eyes and keeps them from looking tired or having bags under them. This is not an important feature for my daughter, but believe me when I say, it's very important to me.

Skin Rever Upper: With her rosacea and acne, my daughter could never tolerate moisturizer, but this product works well for both of us and it does not make her skin oily or her clog her pores. I find it does seem to soften my not too fine line and wrinkles. I'm also very sensitive to fragrance and heavy products but the bare essentials doesn't bother me at all.

Brushes: In order to get the flawless look that Bare Essentials is famous for, you really do need the brushes. I initially tried to make do with what I had on hand, but found that I really did need the company's brushes to get the result that I want.

These products really have been a lifesaver for my daughter. They give both of our skin a nice appearance and not only have they not aggravated my daughter's acne and rosacea, they've improved it a lot.
